Head northward from Dublin and hike Slieve Gullion mountain to Ireland’s highest passage tomb.
Stop off for a stroll around Belfast before
experiencing one of the world’s most spectacular coastal drives: the Causeway Coastal Route. For Game of Thrones fans there is a visit to the dark hedges.
You are taken to Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, suspended high above the waves. Not for the faint hearted.
Another hike, this time from Dunseverick to the Giant’s Causeway World Heritage Site.From there you will visit the oldest whiskey distillery in the world, Bushmills.
Final stop of the day is the eerie clifftop ruins of Dunluce Castle.
Day 3 – 4
Arrive in Derry/Londonderry for a walking tour of Ireland’s only walled city. After lunch cross the border again into Donegal visiting a ringfort and exploring the wild beauty of Glenveagh National Park. Spend the night in Ardara before moving southward the next day. Spend the day hiking on Slieve League and horse riding on a beach in Sligo.
Day 5 – 6
After a night in Ballina you will enter one of the most impressive stretches of coastline along the Wild Atlantic Way is just a stone’s throw from Downpatrick Head. Dún Briste, the lone sea stack, 50 metres high, stands bravely in the roaring Atlantic. A wonderful sight. Arriving at Croagh Patrick, you will spend the day hiking up Ireland’s sacred mountain.
A night in Westport and you continue south stopping at Delphi Adventures for some sea kayaking on Killary harbour, Ireland’s only fjord. Then its onto Connemara National Park where you will hike up Diamond Hill for some magnificent views.
Day 7 – 8
A night in beautiful Clifden will stir the spirits before continuing southward along narrow roads with the powerful Atlantic on one side and the rocky landscape of the Twelve Pins and the Maamturk Mountains on the other side through the wild heart of Connemara. The strong howling winds coming in from the ocean accompany one along this exhilarating drive. You will pass through a gaeltacht area where the locals still use the Irish language, finally arriving in Galway City, the west coast city of culture.Day 8 has the effect of making you wonder if you have been beamed on to another planet. The reason being the fascinating karst landscape of the Burren.
The world renowned Cliffs of Moher are over eight km long and tower imposingly over the mighty ocean at the highest point with 214 metres. They are especially dramatic when seen from the water.
Day 9 – 10
Spend the night in seaside town of Doolin,a good place to listen to some live traditional music before catching the ferry io Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands. Here you will rent bicycles and ride around the island visiting the ancient ringfort of Dun Aonghasa. Day 10 will be spent on the Dingle Peninsula, with sea kayaking and horse riding as optional activities.
Day 11 – 12
Day 11 will be spent on the iconic Ring of Kerry and the smaller Skellig Ring. The scenery here is breathtaking.
Take a combined boat trip and hike to the ancient Irish monastic site on remote Skellig Michael island.
Hike Valentia Island to Bray Head for stunning Atlantic ocean views.
Catch authentic traditional Irish music and outstanding local food in quaint Kenmare. Day 12 will be spent in the picture postcard town of Killarney and biking around the National Park.
Day 13 – 14
From Killarney head south to West Cork and the Beara Peninsula.
The roads here are so narrow and winding only a small bus can pass.
Visit the ruins of Dunboy Castle on a coastal hike.
The final day of your tour will be returning to Dublin, stopping off along the way to kiss the Blarney Stone, and visit the spectacular Rock of Cashel.
